Roots in The Rushes: Ecological Excursion
Sold Out!
Join Telfair Museums and Savannah State University for a unique exploration in Georgia’s “wetlands” to learn about our coastal marshes. Wildlife Biologist Joseph Colbert (Jekyll Island Authority) will lead an immersive conversation on how generations of African American basket makers have developed deep ecological knowledge of local plants and harvesting practices to support one of the region’s most enduring artistic traditions, and how changing environments affect communities and ecosystems. This program is in connection to the exhibition Roots in the Rushes: African American Basketry of the Lowcountry on view at Telfair.
